[edit] General information
The Dom Hut (German: Domhütte) (2,940 m9,645.669 ft
1.827 miles) is a mountain hut in the Pennine Alps located above Randa in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It stands on rock under the mighty moraine N of the Festig Glacier. You have a magnificent view on the Weisshorn. It is owned by the Swiss Alpine Club. The hut looks like an oversized octagonal mountain crystal. The Dom Hut is mainly used as the starting point of the normal route to the Dom. The Tässchorn and the sharp peaks on the Nadelgrat can also be reached from here. From Randa a trail leads to the hut. The wardens are Renato und Kathleen Schaller (Balmatten 25, 3924 Sankt Niklaus; Tel: 0041 (0)27 956 35 18 or 0041 (0)78 797 35 17).

[edit] Approach routes
Start at the parking lot at the station. Continue upwards past the school building and the church to the highest houses. Go through the meadows until you reach the Dorfbach. Across the bridge, follow the steep path through the forest to reach the open alpine slopes above it at 2,016 m. Continue steeply up the fields to meet the Europaweg at 2,280 m. Cross this and continue up the rock barrier of Festiflue. Follow the path Rwards under this until it is possible to scale the barrier. The route up the rocks has steps, fixed ropes etc and a bit of scrambling to relieve the grind. Eventually it brakes out on to stony terrain not far below the hut.
