[edit] General information
The Mischabeljoch Bivouac (3,855 m12,647.638 ft
2.395 miles) is a bivouac located in the Pennine Alps above Saas Fee, in the canton of Valais in Switzerland, owned by the Swiss Alpine Club. It's a newly constructed hut (1996) standing on stilts near the foot of the N ridge of the Alphubel. The old hut has been destroyed.
There is a resident guardian at times but there is no booking system. Do not presume there will be food in the hut - there is no pantry to buy provisions from; it is imperative to bring all the food you intend to eat and drink. Wood to burn in the stove is provided as part of the hut fee. The hut guardian is Renaud Marc. (Chemin des Deleynes 3, 2072 Saint-Blaise; Tel: 0041 (0)32 753 83 14 or 0041 (0)79 205 22 52; e-mail: marc.renaud@rpn.ch).

After repeated thefts of the payments box (!?!), payment is now only electronic. The account to pay is: Account Name: Mischabeljoch SAC IBAN: CH73 0027 9279 C610 3056 0 SWIFT:UBSWCHZH80A
As this is a wiki, people could change this payment data maliciously - so double check with the CAS Geneva (the club that manages the hut) before sending money: info@cas-geneve.ch
[edit] Approach Routes
- Descent of the N ridge of the Alphubel
The Hut is in the col between the North Ridge of the Alphubel and the SE Ridge of the Täschhorn. It is easily visible from the ridge.
- From the Täsch Hut: (4-5h)
Follow a good path leading NE round the end of the Rotgrat into the Tälli valley. Keep on this path to the point where it crosses the Wissgrat at a saddle between Pt. 3,103 m and Pt. 3,195 m. Descend a path on the N side of the saddle and continue along in until you are just E of the small lake at 3,060 m (1,5h). Keep off the glacier to the R but climb on to the moraine (the route is marked) then head NE towards the rocks between Pt. 3,223 m and Pt. 3,481 m (the latter is not well delineated but the notch on its E side is). A number of possibilities now exist but the most reliable way is to climb the rocks starting at a point about one third distance between the two points mentioned above. The start is marked by a cairn and there is another cairn at the point where the rib linking the two points is joined. The rock climbing is solid and is no more than II. Once on the rib work E along it to the point where a short descent can be made on to the central branch of the Weingarten Glacier. Head NE into the centre of the glacier and then turn E to reach the col. The glacier is heavily crevassed: take exceptional care.
- Täsch - Ottavan - Rotbach - Weingarten Glacier (7-8h):
Coming from Täschalpen, follow the roadway towards the Täsch Hut to the point where it splits with one branch leading N. Follow this to the Rotbach then gain the path leading up the moraine crest between the two branches of the stream. At 3,000 m the path turns R to reach the small lake at 3,060 m. Join the route from the Täsch Hut just E of the lake.
- Saas Fee - Längflue end station - Fee Glacier (4h)
[edit] Ascents
