The Finsteraarhorn (4,273 m14,019.029 ft
2.655 miles) is the highest mountain in the Bernese Alps and the highest mountain in the canton of Berne(it is located at the border of Berne and Valais), it is also the highest summit in the Alps whose range lies outside the main chain. The Finsteraarhorn is also the third most prominent peak in the Alps. Since 2001 the whole massif and surrounding glaciers are part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site.

Starting from the Finsteraarhorn Hut follow a path over the debris ridge to a saddle (3,231 m). Continue northbound over the glacier, right of a rock spur up a trough to Früstuckplatz(3,616 m). On the other side of South-West ridge keep in the middle of the funnel that leads up the Hugisattel (4094 m), this is the Hugisaddle next to the North-West summitrigde. Follow this North-West Ridge, first on the west side and then on the ridge itself towards the summit.
