[edit] General information
The Mischabel Hut (German: Mischabelhütte) (3,340 m) is a mountain hut located in the Pennine Alps above Saas Fee, in the canton of Valais in Switzerland, owned by the Akademische Alpen-Club Zürich (AACZ). It's situated at the top of the steep rock promontory (the end of the ENE ridge of Lenzspitse) overlooking Saas Fee on the south of the Hohbalm Glacier and next to the Fall Glacier. The hut is accessible to experienced hikers from Saas Fee. You have a great view to all sights, to Grimsel and the Furka area, Saas Fee and Fletschhorn, Lagginhorn and Weissmies in the East; Egginer and Allalinhorn in the South and Täschhorn, Lenzspitze and Nadelhorn in the West. In the North you see at clear days the Grosser Aletschgletscher. The Mischabel Hut is used to climb the mountains of the Mischabel group.
[edit] History
The old hut was built in 1902 and enlarged in 1943. This hut still exists. Next to this hut there is the new hut which was built in 1975.

[edit] Approach Routes
From the church in Saas Fee take a path leading west. Pass through a wooded section before reaching a river. Cross this then start a steep grind. High up there is some easy scrambling but the steepness is maintained almost all the way. The hut has a reputation of having a very stiff approach walk (one of the hardest of the entire Alps). Due to dangers because of rockfall, the trail was modified a few years ago. This new trail is a via ferrata with a ladder and some parts with a fixed rope.
You can shorten the approach by taking the gondola lift to Hannig but its not worth the expense. (also with chains and ladders)
