[edit] Approach route
- From Alagna Valsesia: (6-7h)
Walk or take the bus to the parking area at the roadhead (1,500 m). Follow the track on the N side of the river (Acqua Bianca) to the chalets at Pt. 1,603 m. Continue heading NW to the head of the valley. Cross two streams descending from Alpe Vigne and then climb a steep path to the L end of a rock barrier. A fork R here leads to the Barba-Ferrero Hut at Alpe Vigne Sup. Take this path and reach the hut at 2,230 m above the R end of the rock barrier. From the hut climb the path leading up the grassy L lateral moraine of the Sesia Glacier. Climb to the crest of the moraine then follow this to reach a small depression. From here move R on the S Locce Glacier and climb it Nwards to where it steepens R of a massive rognon having the appearance of a horse (the cavallo). Now slant up L and, after crossing the bergschrund, follow a sort of valley until below and L of the hut. Cross another bergschrund then climb rocks to the hut (chains and risk of stonefall). Alternatively, instead of slanting L, slant R and climb to the crest of the ridge on the W side of the Pt. Tre Amici and then follow the crest W to the hut.
