[edit] General information
The Rottal Hut (German: Rottalhütte) is a small unguarded hut located at the foot of the Jungfrau, near the Rottal Glacier. There are no facilities except blankets and firewood. Drinks are available, but no food. Hut is guarded in weekends during high season.
[edit] Access route
- Follow the main stream in Stechelberg (locality in the south of Lauterbrunnen) southwards (stay on the road on the east side of the stream) until you see a path with a sign pointing to the Silberhorn Hut and the Rottal Hut. The path starts near a bridge over the Staldenbach stream. Zig-zag up fields, pass through some dispersed forest patches and cross some rock bands until you reach the Schafbach stream. After crossing the Schafbach stream, proceed towards Pt. 2019 and take the right path at the bifurcation (the left path goes towards the Silberhorn Hut). Now proceed through relatively steep and sometimes exposed rocky terrain (Bäreflue) by following clear blue-white-blue painting signs. Follow the sometimes chained path until you reach the hut. The route takes 6h in total.
- A slightly different route starts a bit more southwards and follows a similar pattern until the Schafbach stream is reached. From there on, follow the route described before.
