| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Name of the glacier. Try to use the English name if possible, but do not used 'forced' translations of standard non-English names such as Schneefeld or Firn. |
| Also known as | Local names of the glacier. If possible try to include the language of the foreign name. |
| Photo | Photograph of the glacier. Preferably a distance shot to show most/all of the glacier and the surroundings. |
| Caption | Description of the photograph which is displayed below. Include the month and year if known. |
| Type | The glacier type. Glacierology is a complex and ambiguous science. Several types and subtypes exist, but most of the glacier will be either Valley Glacier (long and narrow) or Mountain Glacier (short, wide and round). Leave this field blank if unsure. |
| Valley | The valley where the glacier smelt eventually ends up. |
| Location | Country where the glacier is located. This value gets automatically extracted using the Location_sub parameter. |
| Location_sub | Any useful subdivision of the country that is applicable (for example a state or a canton). For example: Valais |
| Location_sub2 | Glaciers are often located on the border of countries or cantons/departments. The second subdivision can be specified here. |
| Range | Mountain range if applicable. The specific range subgroup should be provided instead of any major mountain system unless there is no applicable subgroup. For example, use Teton Range and not Rocky Mountains or Bernese Alps not Alps. |
| Elevation | The elevation of the lowest point of the glacier above mean sea level. Use the following format: 8,888 m. The template will automatically convert the altitude. |
| Length | The length of the glacier. Use the following format: 10 km. The template will automatically convert. |
| Surface | The surface of the glacier. Use the following format: 20 km2. The template will automatically convert. |
| Speed | The speed by which the glacier is moving forward. Use the following format: 20 m/y or 20 meter/year. The template will automatically convert. |
| Thickness | The thickness of the glacier. Use the following format: 100 m. The template will automatically convert. |
| latd | Latitude degrees. Can also be used for decimal degrees |
| latm | Latitude minutes. |
| lats | If known latitude seconds. |
| latNS | N for North; S for South. |
| longd | Longitude degrees. Can also be used for decimal degrees |
| longm | Longitude minutes. |
| longs | If known longitude seconds. |
| longEW | E for East; W for West. |
| Nearby Features | This list is automatically generated by comparing the DMS coordinates of the glacier with other subjects in Mount Wiki. Everything within 3km is listed alphabetically in the list. The list is generated by the Template:Get_Neighbours template. |
| Topographic map | The name of the topographic map showing the glacier. In Switzerland the LSK map templates can be used for example {{1348}} will generate 1348 Zermatt. |
| Topographic map2 | The name of the topographic map showing the glacier. In Switzerland the LSK map templates can be used for example {{1348}} will generate 1348 Zermatt. |
| pushpin_map | The name of a location map as per Template:Location map (eg. Switzerland or Italy). The coordinate fields (eg. latd and longd) position a pushpin coordinate marker and label on the map automatically. Example see: Monte Rosa Hut. |
| pushpin_label_position | The position of the label on the pushpin map relative to the pushpin coordinate marker. Valid options are {left, right, top, bottom, none}. If this field is not specified, the default value is bottom. |
