The Turtmann Hut (German: Turtmanhütte; French: Cabane Tourtemagne) (2,519 m) is a mountain hut near Gruben, in the Turtmann valley. It's a valley in the Pennine Alps in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. The hut is quite small and situated on a rocky shoulder a little way N of the snout of the Brunegg Glacier and below the W ridge of the Barrhorn. It's very easy accessible. The hut is operated by the SAC and the hut wardens are Magdalena & Fredy Tscherrig (Tel+Fax: 0041 (0)27 934 34 84).

Built in 1945; expansions in 1974 and 2000.

[edit] Approach routes

  • Park at the roadhead at Sänntum (1,901 m) in the Turtmann valley. Walk up the roadway beyond this point to the lakes at (2,174 m). Cross the valley and follow an easy path to the hut. (2h)
  • From Oberems via Gruben and the dam (6h)
  • From Gruben (3h)
  • From St.Luc: gondola to Bella Tola - Borterpass - Meidtälli - Vorder Säntum (5h) (also winter approach route)
  • From St.Luc: Hotel Weisshorn parking space - Tsa du Toûno - L'Omèn Rosso (5,5h)
